Texas Saltwater Fishing Report | Trout Fishing Remains Hot Around Seadrift

Castaway Lodge Fishing Report
June 2 – June 8, 2026
Seadrift, Texas

It’s been a busy week around Castaway Lodge, and that’s exactly how we like it. The boats have been leaving the dock before daylight, coolers have been coming back heavy, and the cleaning tables have stayed busy every afternoon. Captain James Cunningham got things rolling early in the week with Bucky Clark on a drive-in trip. The trout bite continues to be red hot, and it didn’t take long for them to get on fish. The morning started with steady action, and the trout cooperated from the first stop, setting the tone for another productive day on the water.

“The fish have been where they’re supposed to be, and when conditions line up, they’ve been ready to eat. It’s been one of those stretches where every morning you leave the dock excited about what’s waiting out there,” said Captain James Cunningham.

The lodge really came alive when Bob Gordon and his crew from Greater Austin Development rolled into town. Twenty anglers filled the rooms, packed the dining hall, and kept every guide on their toes. Boats were coming and going all week, gear was scattered across the dock, and the fish cleaning tables stayed full every evening. There was plenty of laughter, plenty of fish stories, and more than a few discussions about who caught the biggest trout of the trip.

Travis Gibbs made the trip down from Austin and spent a day on the water with Captain Doug Russell. The fishing didn’t disappoint, with steady trout action keeping rods bent throughout the day. Across the bay system, guides continued finding fish holding over shell and grass, and the early morning bite has remained the key to filling boxes quickly.

Captain James finished out the week fishing with another drive in group led by Jason Heinold, who found himself right in the middle of the same strong trout pattern we’ve been seeing for weeks. The fish continue to cooperate, and our guides are taking full advantage of it.

The trout bite remains the headline, but redfish are still giving anglers plenty of opportunities around shorelines and back lakes. Bait has been thick throughout the system, and the bays are setting up exactly the way you’d hope heading deeper into summer.

“We’ve had a great stretch of fishing, but the exciting part is we’re just getting started. June is shaping up to be one heck of a month, and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone at the lodge.” — Braden Proctor

From early breakfasts and packed lunches to fish cleaning, dock talk, and cold drinks after a day on the water, Castaway Lodge has been humming all week long. If the fishing stays on this track, we’re in for a fantastic summer on the Texas coast. We’ll see y’all at the dock.
