Mexico Duck Hunting

Duck Hunting at the End of the Central Flyway

Lower Laguna Madre – Carboneras, Tamaulipas, Mexico

Tucked away at the far southern end of the Central Flyway lies one of the last true duck hunting frontiers — the Lower Laguna Madre. This vast stretch of shallow saltwater is where thousands of pintails and redheads spend the winter, riding out the season until the long trip north begins again in spring.

Here, you’ll find The P.A.L.M. Lodge, a small, private duck camp sitting just 20 yards from the water’s edge. It’s the only lodge of its kind on the Lower Laguna Madre, located in the quiet fishing village of Carboneras, Tamaulipas. The place isn’t fancy — and that’s exactly how we like it. It’s built for hunters: comfortable, close to the birds, and surrounded by miles of wild country.

With room for just nine hunters, the P.A.L.M. Lodge offers a true small-camp atmosphere — coffee brewing before dawn, boats loading at first light, and stories shared around the fire at day’s end. Hunts run through mid-March, when the redheads and pintails are still thick across the flats.

If you’re looking for crowds or chrome, you won’t find them here. But if you want quiet mornings, good company, and some of the finest duck hunting on earth — welcome to the Lower Laguna Madre.
