Texas Coast Fishing Report May 2026 | Castaway Lodge Seadrift TX
Castaway Lodge Fishing Report
Seadrift, Texas | May 6 – May 18, 2026
By Capt. Kris Kelley
It’s been a dang good stretch of weather here lately on the Texas coast. Cool mornings, light winds, and a whole lot of happy people coming back to the dock every afternoon. This is the kind of May weather everybody hopes for when they book a fishing trip to Seadrift.
The lodge has stayed busy with 10 different groups through this week along with 3 drive-in crews making quick runs down to the coast for a couple days on the water. Boats have been rolling out before daylight every morning and the dock’s been full of fish stories by the evenings.
Steve LeClaire rolled in with a six-pack of buddies ready to fish, laugh, and enjoy a few days on the coast together. They spent time on the water with Captains James Cunningham, Chris Cady, and Doug Russell and fit right in around here from the minute they showed up.
Capt. Chris said it best back at the dock,
“Trips like that are what it’s all about — good friends, good weather, and a couple days getting away on the water together.”
That crew definitely helped keep the good times rolling as we head into about a three-week stretch here at the lodge.
Craig Wernecke, Colton Love, and Phillip Eastland slipped down for a couple days as part of our Drive-In options, which continues to be a great setup for folks wanting to sneak away and get a quick coastal fix without being gone too long.
Fishing overall has been solid, although Saturday got a little tougher on everybody. That happens sometimes this time of year when there’s a lot of boats working the same water. Some days they line up just right, and some days you’ve got to grind through it a little more. Capt. Doug put it pretty simply after Saturday’s trip, ” Some days the fish act like they’ve seen every trick in Texas.”
One thing we’ve really enjoyed lately is seeing so many return clients back at the lodge. Stuart Lowery jumped on the boat with Capt. Doug Russell for some classic springtime fishing, while Alex Gibbons mixed it up with both Bay Boat and Airboat trips alongside Capt. James Cunningham and Capt. Chris Cady.
That Gibbons crew is always a fun one when they come through town. A lot of laughing, plenty of joking around at dinner, and always ready to get after it again the next morning.
We also had Wesley Tullos with Moore Supply get his guys on the water with Captains Branden and Casey. Always good having groups like that around the lodge, especially this time of year when the weather lines up and everybody gets to enjoy a few good days on the coast together.
The bays are looking healthy, bait has been moving around good, and if this weather hangs around, we ought to be set up for a really strong run heading into summer.
We appreciate everybody making the trip down and spending time with us here at Castaway Lodge. Whether you’ve been fishing with us for years or just found your way to Seadrift for the first time, we’re glad y’all are here.
See y’all at the dock.
