Last Chance Chaos: Texas Coastal Ducks on Deck and Redfish in the Cooler

Castaway Lodge: Rolling Out of November & Charging Into February, Spring & Summer
Coming off the last weekend of November, the docks were still buzzing from the kind of energy only great guests and wild conditions can create. The Fielder, Nagel, Tullos, and Vereen groups rolled through and left a wake of stories, shell casings, and fish slime behind them — exactly the way we like it. As winter settles in and February creeps closer, the lodge is shaking off the chill and shifting gears toward a run of fishing and hunting that’s shaping up to be downright electric.

A Massive Thank You to the Fielder, Nagel, Tullos & Vereen Crews
To all four groups — Fielder, Nagel, Tullos, and Vereen — thank you for making the final weekend of November one for the storybooks. From fast-moving ducks to hard-charging redfish, you brought the grit and the good times. The Fielder Group stepped up on the rods and reels, hammering Redfish with precision and enthusiasm. As Capt. James Cunningham put it: “Those boys hunted like they were auditioning for the highlight reel. Every volley came with attitude.

Last Weekend of November – Duck Hunts With Attitude
The ducks didn’t stand a chance. Foggy mornings, cool breezes, and perfect tides set the stage, and the groups delivered. Capt. Braden Proctor summed it up: “They wanted ducks and they weren’t shy about proving it. Every group was locked in.” Capt. Casey Jones added his own brand of commentary: “Some hunts you guide — some you just sit back and enjoy. This crew made it easy.” Good dogs, good shooters, and even better stories back at the lodge. Exactly how Thanksgiving weekend should go.

Capt. Chris Cady’s Airboat Red Fishing Run
While the duck hunters were stacking birds, Captain Chris Cady was out there in the back lakes doing what he does best: hammering shallow-water reds where only an airboat can go. He fired up that big fan, carved through the grass and mud, and put his crew on a full-blown redfish wrecking crew. The report? “Three reds at eleven o’clock — be ready.” And they were. Cady delivered another A-level run, leaving coolers heavy and smiles even heavier.

Looking Ahead: February, Spring & Summer Fishing
Now we shift gears. New month. New patterns. New opportunities to put guests on Texas coastal greatness.

February – The Quiet Assassin
This month sneaks up on people — but it bites hard.
Expect:
• Big trout staging on mud and shell
• Redfish pushing shallow with consistency
• Drum schooling tight and mixing with schools of Redfish
• Lighter winds and perfect mixed-bag days
It’s the ideal warm-up for spring.

Spring – Bait Explodes & The Bays Come Alive
This is where things get rowdy. Shrimp, mullet, and glass minnows flood the marshes and bays.
Expect:
• Back Lake redfish getting aggressive
• Trout spreading across deeper structure
• Airboat sight-casting days that feel like video games
• High action, fast limits, and nonstop movement
Spring is when Castaway Lodge turns into a machine.

Summer – Full-Throttle Coastal Chaos
Summer isn’t fishing season — it’s go-time.
Expect:
• Morning redfish rodeos
• Sunrise trout drifts so good they should be illegal
• Nearshore runs when the Gulf lays down
• Big groups, family trips, corporate retreats, and a dock full of grins
Summer at Castaway Lodge is controlled chaos — the best kind.

2nd Split Duck Hunting — Business Is About to Pick Up                                                                                                                          We’re staring down the second split, and the lodge is humming with anticipation. Birds are staging, cold fronts are lining up, and the marsh is itching for pressure.
As Capt. Cunningham said earlier, “If the early season was any hint, the second split is gonna be something fierce.” Book early. It’s going to fill fast.

From All of Us at Castaway Lodge — Thank You
To the Fielder, Nagel, Tullos, and Vereen groups: Thank you for ending November with a bang — literally and figuratively. Your hunts, your fishing, your laughs, and your presence pumped life into this place as we roll into the next chapter.
