Another great week is in the books, with several awesome groups joining us for everything from client entertainment to big multi-boat outings and a two-day fishing weekend. August continues to give our captains plenty to work with, and every trip brings a little something different to the table.

We started the week with Jesse Schuurman, who brought some of his clients in for a day on the water with Captain Braden Proctor. There aren’t many better ways to entertain clients than trading the office for a boat, some fishing, and a day spent enjoying the outdoors.

Braden kept the group moving and made sure everyone got the full experience. Trips like these have always been about more than what ends up in the box. It’s an opportunity to get away, build relationships, tell a few stories, and enjoy some time together without a conference table anywhere in sight.

Captain Braden Proctor: “Jesse brought a great group down. Everybody was there to have a good time, enjoy the day, and catch some fish. That always makes my job easy.”

Next through the doors was Wesley Tullos and his group of 16, which called for a four-boat attack with Captains James, Chris, Braden, and Casey.

Four boats leaving the dock together always adds another level of excitement to a trip. With a group that size, it’s a great opportunity for everyone to spread out across several boats while still enjoying the experience together.

Our captains covered water and stayed in communication throughout the day. That teamwork is a big part of handling larger groups. Conditions can change quickly this time of year, so having several experienced captains working together allows everyone to adjust as the bite develops.

Captain James: “It was a good group of guys to have on the water. With four of us out there, we were able to cover plenty of water, stay in touch, and keep working to find what the fish wanted.”

We finished out the weekend with Mike Barberousse and his crew of 13 guys, who came in ready for a full two days of fishing. A two-day trip gives a group a chance to really settle into the experience. The first day lets everyone get comfortable on the boats and enjoy some time on the water, while the second gives our guides another full day to adjust to the conditions and build on what they learned the day before.

Mike and his crew were able to spend two full days fishing with us, and groups like this are exactly what make a fishing weekend so much fun. Good friends, plenty of time on the boats, a lot of laughs, and enough stories to keep everybody entertained long after the rods are put away.

Captain Chris: “Two days gives you a lot more time with a group. By that second morning everybody is settled in, having a good time, and ready for another day on the water. Mike had a really enjoyable crew to fish with.”

What We’re Seeing on the Water

Late August fishing is all about making adjustments and taking advantage of opportunities when they present themselves. Our guides have been watching conditions closely, covering water, and making moves when necessary rather than waiting for the fish to come to them.

Early mornings continue to be an important part of the game. Getting on the water and being ready when that first good feeding window develops can set the tone for the entire trip. As the day progresses, our captains are adjusting their approach based on what they’re seeing on the water.

That ability to adapt is one of the biggest advantages of fishing with an experienced guide. What worked yesterday isn’t guaranteed to be the answer today, especially during the heat of August.

Captain James Cunningham: “This time of year you’ve just got to pay attention to what’s happening around you. Conditions change, the fish move, and sometimes one little adjustment is all it takes to get things going.”

And when everything comes together, it can happen in a hurry. One move, one change in conditions, or one good stretch of water can turn the entire day around. Between Jesse Schuurman and his clients, Wesley Tullos and his crew, and Mike Barberousse wrapping up the weekend with two days on the water, we had another fun week with some great people.
