Seadrift, Texas Fishing Report | Family Fishing & Limits at Castaway Lodge
Fishing Report | Castaway Lodge | 04/06/26 – 04/12/26
If there’s one thing we love seeing roll through the gates at Castaway Lodge, it’s new faces—and this week delivered in a big way. Nine different groups joined us, with a healthy mix of return guests and plenty of first-timers getting their first taste of what the Seadrift marsh has to offer. Even better, we had a strong showing of young anglers—kids and teens out on the water with their dads and grandparents. That’s what it’s all about.

We kicked things off early in the week with a lineup of friends-and-family crews ready to bend rods and make memories. Robert Vanhoy and his boys, Willard and Stacey Levy with their granddaughter, and Ron Mendelzon fishing alongside his son and grandson all hit the water with Captains James Cunningham and Bradon Proctor. The Levy crew came to play. Fishing with Captain Bradon Proctor, they absolutely put a hurting onthem—boxing full limits of black drum, redfish, and trout on day one, then coming back just three reds shy of another full haul on day two. That’s about as steady as it gets.

Over on the airboats, Captain James Cunningham had the Vanhoy crew dialed in. Two days of fishing and they were back at the dock by noon both days with full limits of drum and redfish. When you’re headed in early with smiles all around, you know it’s clicking.
Captain Chris Cady and the Pfluger group didn’t waste any time either—limits secured by 10:30 and coolers slammed shut before most folks are thinking about lunch.
As the week rolled on, we welcomed in the rest of our groups leading into the weekend, with more families filling the lodge and more stories stacking up down on the bayou. The common thread all week? Quality time on the water, kids hooked up on fish, and plenty of first experiences turning into lifelong memories.
The bite has been consistent across the board—reds and drum holding strong in the back lakes and bayous, with trout mixed in to keep things interesting. Conditions have lined up just right, and our guide team continues to stay on top of the patterns to keep rods bent and customers smiling. As Captain Bradon Proctor put it: “When you’ve got kids and grandparents on the same boat all catching fish, that’s about as good as it gets. This week’s been one of those you don’t forget.”
We’re rolling strong into spring, and if this week is any indication, it’s shaping up to be one for the books. If you’ve been thinking about making the trip—now’s the time.
See y’all at the dock
