October Madness Continues at Castaway Lodge | Seadrift, TX
October 18–26, 2026 | Seadrift, Texas
The groups just keep rolling through Castaway Lodge! As soon as one bunch gets off the water and starts heading home, we’ve got another crew pulling in ready to get after it. October has been one heck of a month, and our guides and lodge
crew have been putting in some long days making sure everybody has a great time.
Brenden Benson, a pharmaceutical rep, brought some of his clients down to enjoy a little time on the Texas Coast. There’s nothing quite like getting away from the office, climbing aboard a bay boat, and spending the day fishing with good company. Whether it’s entertaining clients or just getting away from the everyday grind, a day on the water
is hard to beat.
We also welcomed Nic Piano and his group of 12 for their first visit to Castaway Lodge. The guys headed out with Capt.
James Cunningham, Capt. Chris Cady, and Capt. Braden Proctor for a little Texas Coast fishing action. We always enjoy seeing new faces around the lodge, and there’s something special about introducing a new group to what we’ve got going on here in Seadrift. Hopefully, this was just the first of many trips for Nic and his crew!
Zach Cross also brought his group of five down for some fishing with Capt. Doug Russell and Capt. Terry Spoonemore.
These guys must have enjoyed themselves because they’ve already booked their next trip back in March! That’s what we love
to see around here. Folks come down for a little fishing, enjoy some good company, and before you know it, they’re already making plans to do it all over again. We’re looking forward to having Zach and his crew back!
“You get all kinds of groups out here, but at the end of the day, everybody’s looking for the same thing — a good time on the water.”
Capt. Terry Spoonemore
Then the weekend rolled around, and here came some familiar faces! Bob Gordon brought his crew from Greater Austin Development back
for another round of fishing. Bob has been bringing his guys down for years, and they’re one of those groups we always
look forward to seeing. When you’ve been coming to Castaway Lodge that long, it’s about a whole lot more than just catching fish. It’s catching up with old friends, sharing a few laughs, and making another round of memories on the water. We sure appreciate Bob and the continued support from Greater Austin Development over the years.
“There’s nothing better than seeing a group come down, enjoy themselves, and head home already talking about when they’re coming back.”
Capt. James Cunningham
Closing out the week, we had the pleasure of hosting the Sharon Young group for a retirement celebration. What better
way to celebrate a big milestone than getting everybody together for some fishing, good food, and a little relaxation on the Texas Coast? We love being part of occasions like these. Whether it’s a corporate outing, a group of longtime friends, or a special celebration, there’s always something going on around here, and we’re glad the Sharon Young group chose Castaway Lodge to celebrate!
While our guides are out doing their thing on the bays, there’s plenty happening back at the lodge. Between getting
rooms turned over, welcoming new arrivals, and keeping everybody fed, our crew has been putting in some serious hours. And if you’ve spent any time around Castaway Lodge, you know there’s one thing you won’t have to worry about, and that’s leaving the dinner table hungry! Betsy keeps the kitchen rolling, and whether she’s cooking for a handful of guests or a big corporate group, everybody gets treated like family.
“I don’t care if it’s your first time here or you’ve been coming for years, once you walk through those doors, you’re family. And
around here, family doesn’t leave my table hungry!”
Betsy — Kitchen Manager
October has been a steady rotation of familiar faces and first-time visitors, with one group checking out while the next is pulling into the driveway. Our guides have been covering plenty of water, the girls have been making sure everything is ready for the
next arrivals, and the kitchen has been turning out meals for one group after another.
There’s a whole lot that goes into keeping this place running, and I couldn’t be prouder of the crew we’ve got here. Everybody has a job to do, and when things get rolling like they have this month, it takes all of us
working together to make it happen.
One of the best parts of this business is seeing the friendships that develop over the years. We’ve got guests who have been coming down for a long time, and then we’ve got new groups like Nic Piano and Zach Cross getting their first taste of Castaway Lodge. Seeing those new guests already making plans to return tells us we’re
doing something right.
We’ve still got plenty of October ahead of us, and looking at what’s on the books, there’s no shortage of fishing and good times coming our way.
To all our returning guests, our first-timers, and everybody who continues to support Castaway Lodge, we sure appreciate you. We don’t take
any of it for granted, and we’re looking forward to seeing what the next round of groups brings our way.
Until Next Time- Capt. Kris Kelley
