Duck Season Finale, Fishing Brings The Heat!

Fishing & End of Duck Season Report

The final weeks of duck season gave our Cast & Blast guests plenty of bright spots, especially on the fishing side when the ducks or weather didn’t want to cooperate. Overall, fishing was strong and consistent, with plenty of action to keep rods bent.

Speckled trout, redfish, and black drum were plentiful throughout the shallow bays and flats, working mud and grass shorelines. We saw some excellent days wading and drifting these areas, with solid numbers and quality fish coming over the rail. During the cold snap the final weekend of the season, the fish slid out of the shallows as expected, and we found them stacked up in deeper guts, drains, and bayous where they continued to bite well.

Duck hunting had its moments as well, with some outstanding shoots in the bays and back lakes. Low water plagued us for the last several weeks of the season and definitely made things more challenging, but with a little extra effort and persistence, we were able to get everyone on birds and finish the season on a positive note.  I’ve always have to hand it to the guides that just worked their tails off and never giving up despite lots of frustration with the environmental challenges.  Capt. James Cunningham, Capt. Chris Cady, Capt. Braden Proctor, Capt. Casey Jones, Capt. Devin Spencer, Capt. Doug Russell, and Capt. Chris Nobles all put in tremendous effort fighting mother nature, mechanical issues, you name it! <SALUTE>

Looking ahead, this coming weekend marks the 8th Annual Castaway Classic Redfish Tournament benefiting Castaway Youth Charities. Tournament day is shaping up to be a chilly one, but the show must go on. We’re looking forward to a great event for a great cause and appreciate everyone who continues to support it year after year.

As we roll into late winter and early spring, fishing opportunities remain strong along the Texas coast. If you’re looking to book a trip, plan a Cast & Blast for next season, or get on the calendar for spring fishing, now is a great time to do it. Give us a call or visit www.seadriftbayfishing.com

See you on the water,
