Fishing Scene
I guess you call this an “Indian Winter” as things really start to get mild early here in late January. Of course that’s got the fishing juices flowing ahead of schedule as our guides make some fun runs looking for fish concentrations Capt. Clint Anderson managed to find the Redfish again running the tower boat locating mud boiling bruisers over mud/scattered shell shorelines. Capt. Chris Cady got the word and managed to get clients into the action with some nice fish.
Challenged bite of late is what we’ve been experiencing as nobody is having problems locating fish. Talking with guide buddy in the other day down in Rockport, he said the same thing “fish turning their nose up at offerings”. That’s probably got a lot to do with water temps and lethargy. I’m thinking if we put a little sun on that situation for a bit things are going to get real busy.
Duck Scene
That’s a wrap as we say goodbye to the 2015 Texas Duck Season. We would like to thank all of our wonderful guests that hunted with us and have made us “the destination” for waterfowl hunting on the middle coast.
We went pretty strong right up until the final day on Sunday when mild conditions collided with the lowest water levels scene all season. That caught us a little off guard as we had been dealing with high water all season. Morning hunts took the brunt of it with Capt. James dialing in the Redheads that afternoon. All in all it was another solid year with visions of “back in the day” on Redhead action as swarms filled the skies.
Lodge News
From the looks of the foliage around here it just doesn’t look like Winter will ever take hold. We just managed to lose the last remaining leaves off the big trees a few days ago. Our Hibiscus, Plumbago, and others are still loaded with buds and leaves and looking like Hawaii around here. Feburary often brings some of the most sever cold and weather of the season so it remains a curiosity as to whether we will see that or not. If not, I’m here to tell you fishing is going to get off to a frantic pace. We’re looking forward to it for sure!
