“Pulling Levers & Tightening Drags”
Castaway Lodge Seadrift Report

We’re looking good on the fishing scene as we welcomed guests late week and weekend. Scouting revealed a number of potential levers that we could pull on behalf of our guests. From hot Redfish action to mixed Trout and Redfish working mud/grass, having multiple hot spots and “choices” is a good thing and we took full advantage. Go to on Trout and mixed Redfish was utilizing scant supplies of live shrimp under popping cork; Redfish have been best on shrimp and cutters over mud pockets and heavier grass venues day to day.
Water temperatures have been holding and there are still fish shallow and I expect we’ll see them going from deep to shallow depending on weather and cold fronts. This push and pull movement is something seen many times over the years. Some days during the chill of Winter and Spring there just aren’t any fish shallow and that’s bad news for the fish because there’s only one place left to be and that’s deep. The faster you figure that out during cooler months the better.
Duck Scene
We’re knocking on the door to the second split opening of the Texas Duck Season and we’re excited about the second half! Reports coming out of the field indicated we’ve picked up some more birds and while the weather report looks like we need to be sipping umbrella drinks at the beach I doubt that’s going to hold. We’ll be looking for the teeth of whatever Winter we’re going to have to set in. Tides are beginning to show some signs of backing down and the prospects for getting some more water out of the bays is looking encouraging.
Lodge News
While it seems like we’ve been pushing dirt around for ever on the bayou addition, we have been! The really heavy equipment is inbound and we expect to finalize the beautification process over the next several weeks.
Happy Holidays!
