Seadrift Fishing Report: Red-Hot Trout Bite Continues at Castaway Lodge | June 2026

Castaway Lodge Fishing Report
May 26 – June 1, 2026

The weather tried its best to slow us down this past week, but between dodging thunderstorms and watching the radar, our captains still managed to keep folks on fish and keep the lodge busy.

Captains Chris Cady and James Cunningham started the week loading up Bubba Tisdale and Todd Bartlett’s groups while keeping a close eye on approaching weather. A couple of rain delays had everyone wondering how the day would shake out, but shifting gears and turning those trips into afternoon outings proved to be the right move. Once the weather cleared, the fish turned on and both groups found plenty of action before making it back to the lodge in time for dinner.

The trout bite has been the story lately, and it continued when Kent Ferguson rolled in for a few days of fishing. Kent and Capt. James Cunningham found exactly what they were looking for, boxing limits of trout before 8 a.m.

“The trout bite has been about as good as we’ve seen it all spring,” said Capt. James. “When you get on the right school, it doesn’t take long. The fish are healthy, aggressive, and we’re seeing some really solid quality mixed in.”

Another familiar face made the drive down this week as Brandon Leal arrived with family and friends for a few days on the coast. The trout bite didn’t miss a beat. Fishing with Capt. James Cunningham, the group quickly found themselves in the middle of some fast action and put together their five-man limit in short order before settling back and enjoying the rest of the morning on the water.

Michele Girard and family made a quick trip down to the coast and spent the day with Capt. Chris. They enjoyed steady action throughout the morning and headed back to the dock with limits of trout and plenty of stories to tell.

We wrapped up the week by welcoming back Ricky Fernandez and the DPR Construction crew. Nearly 30 anglers spread out across the bay system and kept our guides busy for a couple of days. The weather cooperated, the trout continued to show off, and the group put together some impressive catches while enjoying everything the Texas coast has to offer. By the        end of the trip, the cleaning tables stayed full and there were plenty of tired arms and smiling faces around the lodge.

Overall, trout have been the main attraction across our bays. Fish are holding in good numbers, feeding aggressively, and rewarding anglers willing to work around the weather windows. If these conditions continue, June is shaping up to offer some outstanding trout fishing here on the middle Texas coast.

That’s all from Seadrift this week. We’ll keep watching the weather, chasing the fish, and looking forward to seeing everyone at the dock.
