Seadrift Texas Fishing Report | Redfish & Black Drum Biting at Castaway Lodge (April 2026)
The past week here at Castaway Lodge has been exactly what springtime on this coast is supposed to feel like—good folks, steady bites, and rods staying bent from March 31st through today.
We got things rolling with a couple of drive-in trips. Ricky Stewart showed up with four guys ready to go, jumped in the bay boat, and went to work on redfish and black drum. They stayed on fish all day and came back just a few short of a limit—plenty of action and a solid start to the week.
Next up, Bryan Schott and his buddy climbed aboard an airboat and didn’t mess around. They flat got after it and boxed a full limit of redfish. Captain Chris Cady had both of those trips lined out just right. Like he said at the dock, “We didn’t have to overthink it—fish were where they were supposed to be, just had to go get ‘em.”
Robert Lamoglia with QXO and his crew rolled in for a two-day trip, fishing with Captains James Cunningham, Chris Cady, and David Garcia. That group’s been fishing together a long time, and it showed. They made it look easy—limits across the board both days and a lot of laughs in between.
Russ Ransom made his way back down for a three-day, two-man trip, and even with a little rain mixed in, It didn’t slow them down one bit. They made quick work of it- In and out early with fish each day, taking advantage of the conditions and not wasting any time.
It’s always good seeing Darrell Schact with Serve Outdoor back at the lodge. This trip, Captain Bradon Proctor was at the helm, taking Darrell along with the Comal County Fair Wildlife Exhibit raffle winner, Cody Lickert, and his dad Tracy. They had a heck of a day—put together a boat limit of black drum and ended up just a couple redfish shy. Plenty of action and a great time all around.
We rolled right through Easter weekend with steady fishing and a full house, and honestly, you couldn’t have asked for it to finish any better.

Now we’ve got a day to catch our breath, clean some fish, and get things turned around—because we’re heading straight into a two-week run that’s shaping up to be nothing but bent poles and busy days.
Spring’s here, and it’s game on
