Trout action continues on a hot pace with solid fish coming off both shorelines and shell reefs in multiple venues. We’ve even got some fish still holding on mud/grass and that’s a great back up when the wind pops and bigger water is torn up. We welcomed two different teams for the annual Babes on the Bay Tournament this year and it looks like both may have landed in the Top 20. We’re still waiting to see how the results line out. No winners, but I’ve got to take my hat off to both Teams of gals getting in the water and wade fishing for the very first time and doing really well. Traci Carroll and her family have been fishing with us for nearly a decade but never wading. Kara Keel and guests also had never waded. Trout for the tournament were all above 20″ and the smallest Redfish between the two entries was 26.5″. Congratulations to all our Babes!
Tides and timing are now in focus much more so than when we’re dealing with back lakes Redfish. Water movement and the character of the water all take center stage along with timing and some luck. Capt. James Cunningham roped a twenty five Trout limit this morning by 8:30am and had all 4 boats of Jim K’s party dialed in. Capt. Chris Cady reported finding Trout in a number of locations and hit the limits shortly after James. Capt. Donnie had been working shoreline fish wading taking some nice Trout pushing 25″ and made the shift over to shell Trout today while boat fishing. Capt. Jeff “Limit” Larson represented as well digging in with Capt. Donnie to focus on the bite. Capt. Jake Huddleston also hit them hard bouncing between different shell pads and managed the tournament winning 31″ Redfish for the Jim K. group. It still took some doing for some but everyone managed to limit out on Trout and even managing a few Redfish to 31″.
Redfish & Black Drum
Redfish and Black Drum action has slowed up for us as the post spawn duldrums set in. Pretty typical seasonality really and despite the warmer than average Spring, seasonality looks about right. Fresh water inflows are keeping the fish corraled in familiar haunts and that’s where you’ll find us.
Flounder Gigging
Guests of Mike T. had a rough go of the bayfishing on Saturday but followed up the trip with an evening of Flounder Gigging and man are they hooked! The guys hit limits with Capt. James and Capt. Chris on two wades so we’re looking good heading into prime time. We’d like to see the tides come down just a hair and of course they will as we head into June. That’s when things should get real interesting on solid Flounder with plenty of numbers. Come see us!
