Castaway Lodge Fishing Report

July 13, 2026 – July 20, 2026

As summer starts winding down, we welcomed several families looking to squeeze in one more adventure before the kids head back to school. Those last-minute family getaways always make for some of our favorite weeks around the lodge, and this one was no exception.

Michael Smith kicked things off by bringing his kids down for a memorable wade floundering trip with Captain Chris Cady. There’s nothing quite like watching young anglers experience the excitement of stalking flounder in the shallows, and the smiles back at the dock said it all.

Matt Parmley and his family followed with an airboat redfishing adventure, enjoying everything the Texas coast has to offer. The airboat continues to be one of the best ways to explore our shallow back lakes, and it provided another unforgettable day on the water for the Parmley crew.

We wrapped up the weekend with Haim Kamman and his son joining Captain James Cunningham for a day of bay fishing. Time spent on the water with family creates memories that last a lifetime, and it’s always a pleasure to be a small part of those moments.

We also stayed busy with a couple of drive-in trips throughout the week, keeping our guides on the water and anglers enjoying some quality summertime fishing along the middle Texas coast.

One of the best parts of this week was seeing so many parents introducing their kids to the outdoors. Whether it was wading for flounder, running the back lakes on an airboat, or spending the day bay fishing, those are the kinds of memories that keep families coming back year after year. There’s nothing better than watching the next generation discover why we all love spending time on the Texas coast.

With every passing week, we’re seeing the seasons begin to change along the Texas coast. The long, hot summer days are slowly giving way to thoughts of fall, and that means some of the best times of the year are just around the corner. Before long, our mornings will be filled with hunters heading to the marsh, anglers chasing redfish and trout, and another busy chapter here at Castaway Lodge.

Back at the lodge, it has been anything but quiet. Every department has been pitching in to make sure the lodge is looking its best. From freshening up guest rooms to organizing the Pro Shop and tackling projects around the property, everyone has been working together to make sure we’re ready for another busy stretch. Our crew has been hard at work making sure everything is in tip-top shape as we prepare for the busy seasons staring us in the face. With early teal season, dove season, alligator hunts, and some of our busiest fishing months just around the corner, we’re making sure everything is ready to welcome our guests. I’ve always believed the fishing is what gets folks here, but it’s the people behind the scenes that make it all come together. Seeing our team put in the effort every single day to stay one step ahead makes me proud, and I know that hard work is what keeps guests coming back to Castaway Lodge year after year.

As we close out this week’s report, we’d also like to take a moment to recognize the communities across the Texas Hill Country that have been devastated by the recent flooding. While we’ve been fortunate here along the coast, many families have experienced unimaginable loss. Our thoughts and prayers remain with everyone affected, as well as the first responders, volunteers, and neighbors who continue to help during the recovery efforts.
