Castaway Lodge Fishing Report | Summer Wade Fishing & Early Morning Limits | July 20–27, 2026
Another week on the Texas coast is in the books, and while everyone kept an eye on Tropical Storm Bertha in the Gulf, it never amounted to
much for our stretch of the coastline. We picked up a little weather here and there, but nothing that slowed our guides
down. July has continued to bring plenty of action on the water, returning groups at the lodge, and families making the most of the last few weeks of summer before school starts back up.
Returning client Jesse Schuurman and his group of four kicked things off with Captain James Cunningham. An early start paid off as the bite was on from the get-go, and before 10:00 a.m. they were easing back into the docks with a four-man limit and plenty of stories to go with it. That’s the kind of morning every angler hopes for.
“When the fish are ready, you better be too. We got an early start, stayed on them, and it made for one heck of a morning.” – Captain James Cunningham
Joshua Wallard made the trip down from Round Rock with several of his clients to spend some time on the Texas coast. With the July heat settling in, the group decided to wade fish to stay cool, and it turned out to be the right call. They enjoyed a great day on the water with plenty of action, proving that sometimes getting out
of the boat is the best way to beat the Texas summer heat.
“When it’s hot, there’s nothing better than stepping out of the boat and feeling that water around you. Staying cool is just an added bonus when the fish are biting.” – Captain James Cunningham
The weekend brought more familiar faces as Keith Barker checked into the lodge, while Juan Castillo decided a last-minute trip was in order and joined Captain Casey Jones for a day of wade fishing. Sometimes those last-minute decisions end up producing some of the best memories, and this trip was no different.
“This time of year it’s all about staying patient and fishing smart. If you put in the work, the fish will usually take care of the rest.” –
Captain Casey Jones
Back at the lodge, there was never a dull moment. Before daylight, the smell of fresh coffee filled the dining room while breakfast was served and guides loaded coolers, rods, and gear for another day on the water. Evenings were spent swapping fish stories around the dinner table,
reliving the day’s catches, and making plans for the next morning. It’s those moments—the friendships, the laughs, and the time spent together—that keep so many of our guests coming back
year after year.
With August just around the corner, excitement is already building for teal season, alligator hunts, and dove season. Those dates are filling quickly, so if you’ve been thinking about a late summer or early fall trip, now’s the time to give us a call.
“There’s always another sunrise, another tide, and another chance to make memories on the Texas coast. We’re just glad to be a part of it.”
