Reeling in October, One Limit at a Time!

Hello, Fall Fishing! The Castaway Lodge Crew Is Rolling!

Castaway Lodge | Seadrift, Texas | October 6–12, 2026

Hello, Fall Fishing! We’ve had some absolutely amazing weather here on the Texas Coast this week, and the fishing has been just as good! Cooler mornings, beautiful days on the water, and plenty of fish finding their way into the boxes. This is the beginning of a three-week stretch here at Castaway Lodge, and our crew is geared up and ready to roll!

Josh Wollard has been keeping things interesting around here, weaving seven different groups in and out of the lodge throughout the week. As one group wraps up its trip and heads home, another is pulling into the driveway ready to get after it. It’s been a steady rotation of familiar faces and new ones, with guests getting the opportunity to experience fishing with several of our guides.

Capt. James Cunningham has been putting his groups right on the fish, bringing in limits of redfish and black drum and giving these guys exactly what they came down here for. Capt. Casey Jones has been right there in the mix, making sure his groups enjoy every minute spent on the water.

“When you’ve got good weather, good people, and fish hitting the deck, there ain’t much more you can ask for.”

— Capt. James Cunningham

The Robinson group, a crew of three, joined us for some time on the water with Capt. Braden Proctor. With the fall weather cooperating and the fish biting, it was another great opportunity to get out and enjoy what the Texas Coast has to offer.

Cody Payne brought his two boys and a few buddies down for some fishing action. They headed into San Antonio Bay with Capt. Terry Spoonemore and Capt. Devin Spencer. The young boys had an absolute blast fishing with Capt. Devin, making memories and enjoying every minute of their time on the water. There’s nothing quite like watching the younger generation get excited about fishing, especially when they’ve got a guide who makes the experience that much more fun. Those are the kinds of trips they’ll be talking about long after they head home!

Another familiar face around Castaway Lodge was Douglass Bissett, who continues to bring new clients down to experience a little Texas Coast fishing. We always appreciate our returning guests who introduce new folks to what we do here at the lodge. It’s those relationships that keep this place going!

Jonah Kraus and his crew decided to take advantage of an early arrival and make a drive-in fishing trip out of it since we already had the lodge filled up Friday night. I’d say he’s pretty glad he made that decision!

The guys hit the water with Capt. Michael Martinez and absolutely got after it, bringing in a four-man limit of redfish and coming up just two fish shy of their black drum limit! Now that’s how you start a trip!

After getting back to the lodge, the guys had just enough time to grab a nap, enjoy dinner, and get ready to head right back out for a little nighttime flounder gigging with Capt. Chris Cady. Nothing wrong with squeezing every bit of adventure you can into a trip!

“These cooler mornings have the fish fired up! When they’re feeding like this, you better have your lines in the water because it doesn’t take long to fill a box!”

— Capt. Casey Jones

As we close out another week, we’ve still got Tom Young and two more of Josh Wollard’s groups making their way through the lodge. Our guides have been putting in the hours, the girls at the lodge have been keeping everything running, and everybody has been doing their part to make sure our guests have a great experience.

October is always a big month around Castaway Lodge, with corporate groups coming in to enjoy some time away from the office, cool fall weather settling along the coast, and the phones steadily ringing with hunters getting their waterfowl trips on the books.

We’ve got a lot of fishing ahead of us, plenty of familiar faces coming through the doors, and a crew that’s ready to keep adventures. Whether you’re a longtime guest or making your first trip down to Seadrift, we look forward to seeing you on the water! rolling. We appreciate each and every one of you who continues to make Castaway Lodge part of your fishing

Until next time, tight lines and God bless!
