Seadrift Texas Fishing Report: Strong Spring Bite Continues (April 2026)
The bite stayed right where we like it this past week—strong, steady, and keeping rods bent from daylight to last cast. Spring has settled in across the bay system, and with it came a full lodge and a whole lot of familiar faces rolling back through Seadrift.
We kicked things off with some of our longtime friends out of Brenham. Steve Hunter and his crew are about as close to family as it gets around here, and when they hit the water with Captains James Cunningham, Chris Cady, Bradon Proctor, and Devin Spencer, it didn’t take long to get things dialed in. These guys covered water, stayed on the fish, and flat-out got it done. Solid boxes and even better memories to start the week.
Midweek brought in Tim Plumb and Darren McHugh with their crew for a two-day run that had a little bit of everything Castaway Lodge has to offer. They kicked it off right with Captain Jake Huddleston under the lights on a Night Vision hog hunt—nothing like a little adrenaline before sunup. From there, it was straight to work on the water with Captains Chris Cady and James Cunningham running the airboats, while Captain Bradon Proctor worked his magic out of the bay boats. Between the shallow water bite and covering open bay, these guys stayed on fish and made it count.

Jesse Schuurman made his return trip and got right back after it alongside Captain James Cunningham in the airboat. Always good to see returning groups jump right back into the action—and the fish cooperated just like they should.
We wrapped up the week with a full lodge and a whole lot of familiar names. Tom Young rolled in with a crew of nine, and Jonathan Strellow followed up with a group of eight. When you’ve got that many folks in camp, it takes a solid team to keep things moving—and Captains Chris, Doug, Casey, and James did exactly what they do best. They stayed
on the fish, worked the conditions, and kept the boxes loaded.
Overall, conditions lined up in our favor this week. Water clarity improved as the days went on, bait has been plentiful, and the fish are feeding the way we expect this time of year. Whether wading, drifting, or running skinny in the airboats, there’s been opportunity across the board—and our crews made the most of it.
We’re rolling right through April with momentum, and if this past week is any indication, it’s shaping up to be one heck of a spring down here in Seadrift.
We appreciate every crew that came through the lodge this week—old friends and new faces alike. We’ll see y’all back soon.
